In Hollywood, there seems to be a never-ending rat race to be the thinnest, boniest, most waif-like starlet of them all. The unrealistic expectations for a woman’s figure aren’t only harmful for those celebrities who are vying for the title of “Most Malnourished,” but also for their fans across the globe, who try to emulate their teeny tiny shapes. It’s sad, scary, and downright dangerous for young girls to push their bodies to the breaking points, all in the name of Hollywood perfection, and we’re eager for the day when we can all accept our bodies as they are. That’s why we were thrilled to hear that buxom beauty Jessica Simpson received US Weekly’s “Style Icon of the Year” award at the magazine’s annual Hot Hollywood party, held at LA’s Eden Lounge on Tuesday, April 26th. We were already huge fans of fabulous fashion, but after hearing what the down-to-earth superstar had to say about her new title, we adore her even more. Below, check out her bold Etro minidress – and those gorgeous gams – and learn how to wear a similar style with Jessica-like confidence.
Jessica is one star who isn’t afraid to be herself. Certainly, she’s taken her fair share of body image related hits in the media, yet always manages to have the last laugh, as her namesake lifestyle brand continues to fly off Macy’s shelves. She refuses to shrink down to an impossibly small size, and has been a champion for young women everywhere. She flaunts her gorgeous curves with confidence and grace, and always manages to strike the perfect balance between style and modesty. At the US Weekly party, Jess wore an amazing minidress by Etro, and we’re loving her bold confidence most of all.
The trick to making a mini look great is the perfect fit. Jessica’s version has a modest scoop neckline, and just enough cinching through the bodice. The bold, colorful pattern and her perfectly toned and tanned stems keep the look cute, rather than garish. She completed her ensemble with Giuseppe Zanotti platforms and a Ferragamo clutch, and claimed, “I’m not really that stylish! I wear my fiancé’s Yale hoodie and sweatshorts!”
