“Dump Trump” Petition to Kick Donald Trump Off Macy’s Holiday Ad

Donald Trump appeared on Macy’s holiday TV ad, and it seems like many people were bothered, especially Angelo Carusone. The director of Media Matters has started a petition that’s pushing Macy’s to dump the billionaire from the ad due to The Donald’s bad behaviors (that are of course, not very Christmas-y), as listed in the petition background:

Donald Trump engages in especially unpleasant, nasty and despicable behavior. He has:

– Long engaged in sexist behavior. Trump has a long record of personally attacking women he disagrees by calling them “unattractive,” ugly or fat. He once sent a target a personal note telling her that she has the “face of a dog.” Not even his own daughter is immune to Trump’s sexism. While referring to his daughter, Trump observed: “She does have a very nice figure…if [she] weren’t my daughter, perhaps I’d be dating her.”

– Hypocritically complained about jobs being shipped overseas to China, despite the fact that almost his entire clothing line sold at Macy’s is made in China and other Asian nations.

– Use his public platform to deny the reality of climate change. Following Hurricane Sandy, Trump publicly declared: “The concept of global warming was created by and for the Chinese in order to make U.S. manufacturing non-competitive.”

– Perpetuated the racially charged birther conspiracy, repeatedly arguing that President Obama has been lying and was not born in the United States.

The list goes on. But the point remains, Macy’s should dump Trump.

So far, neither Trump nor Macy’s show any intention of cutting off their collaboration. Macy’s responded to the petition, saying:

“Macy’s marketing and merchandise offerings are not representative of any political position. Many of the individuals associated with products sold at Macy’s – or at any retailer, for that matter – express personal opinions that are not related to the merchandise we sell or to the philosophies of our company. In our merchandise assortment, we strive to meet our customers’ expectations for unique and interesting products across a broad array of styles, categories and brands. This allows our customers to choose what they prefer. A longtime focus of Macy’s holiday advertising has been to celebrate the season’s spirit of generosity and goodwill through our ongoing ‘Believe’ campaign, and that is the sole message of our holiday television commercials.”

Meanwhile, Trump spokesman Michael Cohen told TODAY.com:

“The Trump Organization values its long standing relationship with Macy’s and looks forward to many more years of continued success.”

Do you think Donald Trump is the only one that should be dumped? What about Martha Stewart? We love the ad nonetheless, but tell us: do you agree with Carusone?
