Nicki Minaj launched her Nicki Minaj Collection, sold exclusively at Kmart, in 2013. The collection is inspired by Nicki’s own wardrobe and especially her love of prints. It has included chain prints, neon harlequin print, and of course leopard. There are also more sophisticated pieces in solid black.
The collection includes accessories such as jewelry, socks, and lingerie.
Affordability is a key focus of the collaboration, with most items priced below $25. Nicki herself wears clothing from many high-end designers, but loves that her fans can now get her look without breaking the bank.
“A lot of the dresses on [American] Idol that I wore, they were super expensive. And my fans would ask “where did you get that?” but they couldn’t necessarily afford it — like they’re in college or whatever — so I wanted to create dresses that I would wear.”
Nicki has worn clothes from her own collection on many occasions. The brand has also had tie-ins with Nicki’s music. Following the success of her single “Anaconda,” which hit #2 in the US and broke the record for the most YouTube video views in 24 hours, the Nicki Minaj Collection released limited edition items in anaconda snake print.
